The MCAD Alumni Association is pleased to bring to you this exciting new initiative aimed at bringing together alumni and the entire MCAD community.

As a free service accessible to all alumni along with faculty and students, the Alumni Network offers you a host of opportunities for you to connect with or search for fellow alumni, post messages or your website, upload images and keep informed about current events here at MCAD and what alumni are doing around the world.

We encourage you to join us and spread the word to other alumni as we launch this site in celebrating the remarkable career of MCAD Professor and alumnus Kinji Akagawa.

“To Thy Self Be True,“ a solo exhibition of work by Mary Bergherr (BFA ‘82), is on view through May 24 at Gallery 360 in Minneapolis. A reception for the artist takes place Saturday (April 18) from 7 to 10 p.m. Find out more and check out the artist’s work.

“Almost Homeless,“ a group exhibition featuring work by Keiko Yagishita (BFA ‘99) (keikosprints.com), is on view through Tuesday (April 21) at First Amendment Gallery in Minneapolis. Read the Minnesota Daily review to find out more.

Laura Fulk (BFA ‘07) (laurafulk.com) will debut her new collection, Suffocate, at the Lab Theater in Minneapolis on Tuesday (April 21). The runway show begins at 8 p.m. following a reception from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Fulk’s new collection incorporates images by Melissa Breitenfeldt (BFA ‘06) (mb4graphics.com) in its fabrics. Todd Deutsch (BFA ‘92) (todddeutsch.com) will deliver an artist’s talk on Tuesday (April 21) at the Mpls Photo Center coinciding with the opening of his solo exhibition, “Gamers,“ at the same venue. Find out more.

Lucky, a children’s book featuring illustrations by adjunct faculty Melodee Strong (BFA ‘06) (melodeestrong.com), was recently published by the Avian Welfare Association. The book is based on the true story of a captive parrot that is set free by the child who receives it as a pet. Proceeds from the sale of the book benefit avian welfare, rescue and conservation. Work by Amanda Kalinoski (BFA ‘06) is on view through the month of April at the Women’s Studio Workshop in Kingston, N.Y., where she is currently an artist-in-residence. She is in the process of completing a limited edition artist’s book, Patterned Pleasures, which she plans to make available in May. Find out more and read her artist’s statement.

Emily Johnson (BFA ‘05) (ecdesignstudios.com) is exhibiting work this weekend at The American Craft Council Show, the largest juried show of its kind. The show begins today (April 17) and runs through Sunday (April 19) at the St. Paul RiverCentre. Find out more.

Caroline Karlen (BFA ‘92) is the costume designer for John Bryant’s The Overbrook Brothers, an independent feature screening during the 27th Annual Minneapolis-St. Paul International Film Festival. The film can be seen at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 24, and at 9 p.m. on Sunday, April 26, at St. Anthony Main. Get ticket information and find out more about the film.

Mariam Stephan (BFA ‘95) received the Junior Faculty Teaching Excellence Award at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro College of Arts and Sciences and recently placed work in the permanent collection of the Mobile Museum of Art in Alabama.
